Ecological Use of Pig Waste in Peri-Urban Towns

About the project

The project is located in Dafeng City, the northern part of Jiangsu Province. The city of Dafeng has a thriving agricultural economy, but with the rise of new and intensified production methods, there is also a need for increased environmental management.

In December 2005, Varde Municipality in cooperation with Dafeng Environmental Protection Bureau, Shanghai Animal Husbandry, University of South Denmark, South Jutland Agro-College, Environmental Centre West and Ghent University started up a project on environmental improvement. The project has been granted financial support from the European Union via the Asia-wide programme Asia Pro Eco.

The project is an environmental project focusing on agriculture. The aim is to combine environmental concerns with agricultural production. This will be done by involving different groups to ensure the effect and the sustainability of the project even after the project finalisation. It is the aim to create a coherent concept for environmental farming.

The target groups of the project:

  • Administrative staff responsible for environment and agriculture
  • Farm managers from big farms
  • Farmers from smaller farms
  • Technical farm staff
  • Teachers from agricultural college
  • Students of agriculture
